The Statue of the Maternal Bond at our Shrine
The Maternal Bond Statue is already here! The statue arrived at at a perfect time, on the Vigil of the Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God!
The Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa is a place where we can experience the love of Mary Mother of Jesus Christ who at the foot of the cross became Mother of us all. Her motherly love creates a bond between her and us her Children which is forever. We are so glad that the Trefz’ Family has decided to offer a statue called Maternal Bond sculptured by an artist Timothy Schmalz for our Shrine. The idea was inspired during 2018 Legatus summit.
Legatus is an international organization of Catholic laymen and laywomen, which empowers executives to boldly live their Catholic identity. By living out the Faith in their business, personal, and professional lives, Legatus members are a powerful lay ministry in the New Evangelization and in the building up of the Body of Christ in accord with of the teachings of the Magisterium of the Church. Legatus is Mission Driven: to study, live, and spread the Catholic faith in our business, professional and personal lives.
Timothy Schmalz is a Canadian sculptor based out of St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada. He focuses on religious figures and also has many public pieces. Schmalz is best known for his Homeless Jesus that he created in reaction to the many homeless living on the streets. Schmalz conceives his sculptures with keen devotion to Catholicism and gives his time to each piece, sometimes taking as much as 10 years forming the idea and sculpting it. Some of his works are created in series and others are single pieces. Schmalz has said, “If my sculptures are used by people as a tool to think, then I’m very happy.” Installments of his work have brought his visual message across the globe with Homeless Jesus having been displayed in many places including St. Peter’s Basilica.
In Maternal Bond statue Mary envelopes the child Jesus in motherly love cradling Him in her arms with her cheek gently pressed to His face as He plays with her hair.
We invite you all to come and see this masterpiece at the ground of Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine by Retreat house. And we thank the Trefz’ Family for their effort to spread the message of maternal love to all the pilgrims of the Shrine by sponsoring this statue of Maternal Bond.
The blessing of the statue will take place in the near future during one of Mary’s feast days. We will let you know the exact day of the planned blessing of the statue.
