Easter Triduum at the Shrine

Easter Triduum at the Shrine

The Paschal Triduum are the most important days of the liturgical year in the Church. During this time, Christians are experiencing the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Holy Thursday is a day when we give thanks to God for the gift of priesthood and the Eucharist. In the morning, the Pauline Fathers attended the Chrism Mass in Philadelphia, celebrated by the clergy of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, led by Archbishop Charles Chaput. At 7:00 pm, all Pauline priests celebrated the solemn Mass of the Lord’s Supper at the Main Church in Doylestown. The liturgy was presided over by Father Tadeusz Lizińczyk, the Provincial of the Pauline Fathers and Brothers in USA. The Eucharist ended with the transfer of the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar of the Exhibition, located in St. Anne’s Chapel.

On Good Friday, the Liturgy of the Passion and Death of Jesus took place at the Shrine at 3:00 pm Father Krzysztof Drybka, Prior of American Czestochowa was the Main Celebrant and a Homilist. In the evening we also celebrated outdoor Stations of the Cross led by Father Timothy Tarnacki and Father Marcin Cwierz. This year’s reflections were of a Marian theme, at the same time preparing the faithful for the Coronation of  Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa.

Holy Saturday is the day on which Christians keep watch by the tomb of the Lord Jesus, adoring him and awaiting the resurrection. The Polish scouts were guarding the tomb of Christ. On this day there was also a traditional Easter Blessing of Food, also called Świeconka. For almost the whole day, the Fathers blessed Easter food brought by the faithful in the vestibule of the church. At dusk, the solemn liturgy of the Easter Vigil took place, presided by Father Tadeusz Olzacki.

On Sunday morning, a traditional procession and resurrection Mass took place, presided by Father Provincial Tadeusz Lizinczyk. During the procession with the Blessed Sacrament around the church, the faithful carried banners and sang traditional Polish songs, worshiping the Risen Christ. The orchestra of Our Lady of Czestochowa, led by Pawel Raczkowski, organist and music director of the Shrine, also took part in the procession.
