The Epiphany of the Lord
The Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord at the Shrine and at the Monastery of Pauline Fathers and Brothers in Doylestown, PA. On this day at all Masses we have blessed chalk and incense to bless our homes and to inscribe C+M+B on our doors. The letters traditionally signify the name of the Magi, the Three Kings (Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar) and also are an abbreviation of a house blessing “Christus mansionem benedicat”, which means, “May Christ bless this house”. On this occasion an annual blessing took place at our Monastery as well. All rooms in the Monastery were blessed by Fr. Jan Michalak OSPPE, Subprior of the house. On Saturday, a day before Epiphany, Fr. Marcin Ćwierz OSPPE, a chaplain of the Polish School, has also blessed all the classrooms of the school as well as offices and other locations at the Shrine. Children from the Polish School have traditionally dressed as the Magi to accompany the priest in this New Year’s blessing.
