Renovations of the Altar in the Chapel of Our Lady of Czestochowa

The renovations started about two weeks ago. The reason for the renovations was to install the new screen that is now covering the Icon of Our Lady. The screen is similar to the one at Jasna Gora Shrine in Poland, and it will be used to solemnly unveil the Image of the Blessed Mother in the Chapel. This silver screen has been dedicated in thanksgiving to the Almighty God and the Blessed Virgin Mary for 60 years of American Czestochowa and in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Coronation of  the original Image of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Poland. The benefactor of this beautiful screen is Mr. Victor Majka, who dedicated it in thanksgiving and in honor of his parents Blaise and Anna Majka.

The front cover of the screen is made of silver and weighs about 180 pounds (90 kg). It depicts the image of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary which was inspired by the work of Spanish Baroque painter Bartolome Esteban Murillo. Mary, while being taken into Heaven, is surrounded by Holy Angels. At the bottom of the image two shrines are depicted: on the left side the Shrine of Jasna Gora in Czestochowa, Poland, where the original painting of the Black Madonna is located at, and on the right the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa (American Czestochowa), Doylestown, PA. The silver screen has been designed and made by Mr. Kamil Drapikowski of „Drapikowski Studio” in Gdansk, Poland in 2014.
