Altar Servers Retreat at the ShrineThe altar servers kicked off this great and holy Advent season with an awesome retreat this past weekend, 12/01 – 12/02 2007, at Our Lady of Czestochowa. It was a relaxing and reflective experience as we prayed, attended talks and spent time together at the Retreat House.

Prayer was interwoven throughout the retreat. During the morning and evening, we said the Liturgy of the Hours, which combines scriptural quotations, reflections and common prayers and is recited throughout the day. Intriguing, yet easy to say, this is a meaningful prayer. Other times of prayer included recitation of the Rosary and the Chaplet of The Divine Mercy, Confession and Mass.

Altar Servers Retreat at the Shrine Father Sebastian gave a series of talks, of which the altar servers attended the last three, on the Gloria prayer said or sung at Mass. Father made many good points about the prayer, but some of his examples were telling of his actually quite adventurous person. Did you know that Fr. Sebastian has gone parasailing and bungee jumping?

Altar Servers Retreat at the Shrine Staying at the Retreat House was a unique experience and allowed us a strong sense of community. Although it was just an overnight stay, we capitalized on every moment by praying at the chapel, visiting the library and enjoying each other’s company.

Praying, attending talks and spending time together at the Retreat House at the start of this Advent season began our preparation of heart and mind to mark the birth of Christ and await his Second Coming.
