Feast of the Holy Body & Blood of Christ Print E-mail

St. Francis Xavier Church on 16th Street in Manhattan, in NY, is the place where Thomas Merton dropped in for a little rest after wondering around all day. He was confused, troubled and searching for an answer at a critical moment of his life. The Blessed Sacrament was exposed that day for public worship at St. Francis Xavier Church. I looked straight at the HostThe Holy Body of Christ and I knew now who it was…. And I said: Yes, I want to be a priest. Thomas Merton became a priest, a monk and a scholar. To know who Jesus really is and to experience his living presence, we must accept and believe what Jesus says about himself in the Holy Eucharist. The entire chapter six of the Gospel of St. John is the best written testimony to Jesus' words about himself as the Living Bread of heaven. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.

It simply reminds us that God exists and He is the master-planner of our lives. It reminds us that God is as much a reality as the air we breath for the preservation of life. Today's feast of the Blessed Trinity reminds us that God is as much a mystery as life itself.
