I Sunday of Advent Print E-mail
Sunday, December 2nd 12-02-1st-sunday_of_advent.jpg

Today the Roman Catholic celebration of Advent is as much about watching for the day when Christ will come again in glory as it is about preparing for the annual east of Jesus' birth.

The Church begins its year on the same note on which it ended: watch for the day of the Lord's coming, live lives of gospel faith, for you know not the day or the hour!

As is true every year, the season of Advent  is destined to prepare us for the coming of the Lord. This coming is that of his birth among us, about two thousand years ago. So we shall consecrate four weeks to disposing our soul and our body for the coming of the Lord Jesus: our soul, for the fruitful contemplation of the Mystery of the Birth of the Savior into the world; and our body, participating in the action of the soul, for worthily receiving the Savior of the world in his sacrament of the Eucharist, which is the Body of Christ!

Solemnity of Christ the King Print E-mail

Though this Feast is a new one, promulgated by Pope Pius XI in 1925 in his Encyclical Quas Primas, it is a most awesome and important one! Vive Christus Rex! On this ay, we pray for the conversion of all to Christ, and for all governments to recognize Him as King and conform their laws to His teachings. This is the only way to peace! Apocalypse 19:15-16: And out of his mouth proceedeth a sharp two-edged sword, that with it he may strike the nations. And he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness of the wrath of God the Almighty. And he hath on his garment and on his thigh written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. Today may receive a plenary indulgence by praying the Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart, going to Confession, and receiving the Eucharist. We beg God to bring all people to Him and to be our King. In the Novus Ordo, this Feast was moved from the last Sunday in October to the last Sunday of the Season after Pentecost, which is the Sunday before Advent Sunday. The effect of this is to interrupt the relationship between the reign of Christ with His Saints, who are commemorated en masse on November 1st, and the necessity of our recognizing His Kingship now!

You shall love your neighbor as yourself Print E-mail

11_03-volunteer2.jpgWhat better example of this commandment than that of a volunteer? A volunteer is one who unselfishly opens his heart and gives of himself to fulfill the needs of others.

We have been blessed with men and women, young and old, who have opened their hearts to Our Lady and have offered their love to help fulfill the needs of Her Shrine and the pilgrims who visit here. We see this love throughout the Shrine in the form of our Ushers and Lectors who come each week and serve at all the Masses and ceremonies. We hear it in the voices of our Choir as they fill the Shrine with inspirational music and hymns. And for over 40 years we have seen this love and committment in those who help at the Shrine’s Annual Festival. For five days they are the ambassadors of the Shrine, greeting all those who come to take part in the festivities. It is the volunteers who pass on our traditions and customs and who spread Christian hospitality to all the visitors
